My name's Pete, and I'm not the fittest person in the world. Somehow, though, I've found myself preparing for a 10K run in May, 2011.

This blog previously charted my various fitness activities as a means of self-motivation. Now, it's going to chart my training for this event, and beyond.

Gym

All right, I apparently lied. But today marks “fresh start” day.

Went with Jane today. I did my usual programme on my bumped-up weights and Jane did some cardio work. She’s found that in a relatively short space of time she’s been able to build up her stamina and strength by a noticeable degree, just like I have.

I’m also pleased that even after a short break I can still do everything - even my archnemesis the treadmill didn’t feel too bad. Perhaps I should increase my cardio difficulties too.

Discovered a way to enhance the difficulty of ab crunches over the last couple of sessions, too - there’s a load of what look like footballs in the “free” area, but they all weigh a surprising amount. Doing ab crunches bent backwards over a big rubber ball while holding a 5kg football behind your head may look ridiculous but it sure works the muscles.

At least I haven’t quite got to the stage where my exercises on aforementioned ball resemble sexual intercourse, unlike a number of other gym attendees. Quite.
